COOLBERRIES’ original seeds come from a business model that was firstly created in 2013 with our main field of Blueberries: Horticina, with 62 hectares. This farm is in Galicia, in the north of Spain, surrounded by tranquillity, nature and with plenty of water around.
In 2020, the company Horticina was acquired by 2 businessmen with a long history in the agricultural, sustainable and technological world. Their idea was being able to develop a unique model in the world, where they could change the traditional blueberry business through the introduction of technology and sustainability, in order to minimize operational costs.
Since then, the company has experienced exponential growth, ending in 2022 with more than 150 hectares of organic blueberries in Galicia and producing 600 tons of both, fresh and high-quality IQF, making the Spanish company a world benchmark in the production of high-quality organic blueberries.
Company’s plan involves reaching 500 hectares of organic production in northern Spain by 2026, thus becoming the world’s largest organic blueberry production company. Also, in 2023, to be the first company in the world to do the whole harvest of blueberries by mechanical means and to become carbon positive in this same year.
The project has been expanded with the introduction this year of organic kiwi with the purchase of the first 40 hectares, also in Galicia. The plan foresees acquiring 600 hectares to produce yellow kiwi in the next 5 years and also became a benchmark in the production of this product in Europe.
